Would LOVE/VALUE your feedback on the new parent-training idea!

I am involved in one of the most exciting projects that I’ve done in a long time. I’ve filmed a 7-minute parenting video called, Raising Kids in a Crazy Culture.

It’s not your typical “Christian” video—as I think you’ll be able to tell. The people who are financing this project hired a Hollywood type film crew. It’s been well produced! One of the goals of this type of parenting-help video is to deliver the training to a parent’s mobile device.

The pilot is below:

I’m asking 2-things of anyone who would be gracious enough to help.

1. Watch the video.
2. Take 1 minute to fill-out the multiple choice questionnaire… click here.

Grateful for your help. It’s amazing how much power this blog audience has. Your votes changed a publisher’s mind on a book cover and the folks paying for this video want your input.

Also, if you can, please share this link with some parents you know and see if they’re participate.

I’m grateful for your participation in this project,
doug

Love it Doug…the need for something like this that is mobile accessible cannot be overstated. Completed the survey, excited to see how this develops!

Thanks David. I’m excited about it… but, it’s definitely different.

  • Jim Bogle

Definitely different, but thanks. It reminds me of what is happening in my own backyard even if I want to imagine that it only goes on somehwere else far away from my own kids.

Do you know when the release date will be?

    • doug fields

if all goes right, in the late fall of 2013 or early 2014.

  • Lisa

This was a fantastic video! So glad you posted it.

I would love to use this in my church, but I am a newly wed youth pastor with no Kids. How could I leverage influence to teach or who do I look for to teach the series.

    • doug fields

I think the idea is to get the series into the hands of parents… they can teach themselves.

i like how Doug said he was an expert on Kids, until he had one. And the video mentions at the end that this is not a long lost secret, and not the only way, which allows it to be open for discussion. Allow it to be an open dialogue. you may not get every parent on board, but even if a few are on board they are the seeds that begin to sow fruit. Hope you are able to utilize it in your ministry.

Doug, I am a fan of your from years of reading your books as I volunteered with youth. The last 30 seconds hit home for me. I have been thinking of “the 2nd sentence” for a while now. You know, the sentence spoken after your name. On Monday Night Football the players say their school, on twitter you try to list attributes or interests, but in life the 2nd sentence attributes your goals and values. What you say in that moment communicates a lot about values, goals, and future plans. Thanks for the video.

Love it. Mainstream (“normal” “everyday” “trying”) parents need something to get their attention. This definitely got my attention.

I would love to show this but wouldn’t know how executive leadership would feel about showing it.

    • dougfields

JC: would love to know what you think the “executive leadership” would think… is it too edgy? too real life? not real enough? Just curious.

      • http://www.jcisonline.com JC

I think it would be a little too edgy. We have Bob Jones in our backyard and are constantly battling welcoming the unchurched and not being abrasive to the “church” people.

So I would haven’t a hard time sharing it with my personal outlets (social media, website, etc.) Not sure how much church communication space I would get. Hope that makes sense.

BTW the look totally speaks to young-er parents. Please make more stuff that looks like this!!

        • dougfields

Thankful for your more detailed feedback.

  • Sean Pearson

I love the concept. Already thinking of when and where to offer this.

This looks great! I think this kit would be greatly appreciated by parents in the church. Only thing I wonder about is how parents of no faith would react to this? A large percentage of our youth come from homes that are not Christian. With that being said I really enjoy how this doesn’t beat around the bush, it gets right to the point!

      Thanks for your input!

Took the survey (Love the outside the box thinking on delivery but as a youthworker this was a hard watch, hurts my heart)!!

So when is the curriculum going to be out!? I got parents a waiting!!! :)

  • Scott G

Wish I had seen this sooner so I could have been part of the survey. I think this is a great conversation starter with parents. I like how you said you were an expert until you had kids (so true), and end by saying that this isn’t the only way to communicate with parents and parents with students. I think this is great because Some parents seem to know what is going on but don’t know how to handle it, some parents don’t care, and some parents try their best to “shelter” their students from the mass culture. I plan on utilizing this video, and hope the rest will be out in the Fall!-
