What type of training are you looking for?

I get asked every week, sometimes several times a week, about mentoring and/or coaching. It got me thinking… I speak at a lot of youth ministry conferences and I’m wondering if conferences are still effective?

  • Do leaders want both–Conferences to gather with “the many” and coaching to have more intentional time?
  • Do you want variety or are you seeking something specific for your leadership development?

I like the idea of coaching. Although I still like the conference to bring volunteers to. Conferences are really helpful for my team.

that’s a good distinction Suzie… conferences are great for volunteers.

The thing with conferences is that I’ve heard most of what is speaker is saying before! It is tough to teach us all a lot in just a short weekend, though I love to go to them for the great worship and time to spend with other youth workers who share in similar struggles.

I have grown tired of attending conferences. So a group of 10 of us have organized a 3 day retreat with an older facilitator to lead us in discussions, brainstorming, and daydreaming of what our ministries could look like.
