Weird Wednesday: Restaurant Herpes

Yesterday Jim Burns and I took our friend Shawn to lunch to talk about the details of our Marriage Conference next month and we ate at one of our favorite places near the HomeWord offices. As we left the restaurant we noticed that we entered a restaurant warning us of Equine Herpes.

Why share that with you?

As I reviewed my blog of 2011, I realized that very few of my 270 posts were fun and/or humorous. I love humor, funny situations, oddities, etc… I need more for this blog. So, if you run across something that fits a weird/humorous category and send it to me… and it makes it on the site, I’ll give you a free shopping spree at DownloadYouthMinistry. Bring it on.

Question: do you have a constant source of humor in your life? If so, where?

One source of humor in my life comes from my five kids. Our oldest is 13 (soon to be 14) and our youngest is 3. Each one, in their own unique and special way bring delight and enjoyment to my wife and I. With 5 kids, there’s never a dull moment. And you never know who is going to say what. From the clever, quick-wit to the pranks and spontaneous moments, there is plenty of good fun going around.

It makes me appreciate, all the more, the true gift and blessing our children can be.

Along with my 5 kids, I would say my greatest source of humor is my 5-year old niece. My sister is constantly posting hilarious quotes and stories about her and her 1-year old little sister on facebook. Below is a sample of the almost daily laughs that I receive from them:

Haylie (1-year old) scribbled on Dakota’s (5-year old) picture and Dakota burst into tears. Haylie got confused and she just started crying with Dakota and my sweet little girl yelled at the top of her lungs, ” STOP CRYING!!! you do not get to cry when you are naughty and ruin other people’s stuff. i get to cry because i’m the one with ruined stuff.”

The source of my humor comes from my husband. Just when life gets a little stressful, he will do something to catch me of guard and make me laugh. I always tell him that my life would be boring without him.

My source of humor is my family. I married my very own “Weasley Twin” (for non-Harry Potter readers that is a fun loving prankster who is incredibly devoted to his family) and we have created a little mini me version in my hilarious 4 year old. They remind me daily that God intends us to smile and laugh and that He has a wonderful sense of humor.

Interesting that the 4 comments (below) all connect to family.

I have two key places for my humor: Mikey’s Funnies and Youth Ministry Garage.  I also get a lot of humor off of Facebook, but I really don’t go looking for it there.  Mikey’s Funnies is a daily email, so that gives me a great chuckle every day, as well as providing me with jokes and funny stories.  Youth Ministry Garage, on the other hand, makes me laugh hard and long at times, and helps me to relax in a “Laughter’s the Best Medicine” kind of way.

I recently came across a very funny blog called the bearded idealist. He’s a worship minister and has an awesome ability to use random subjects to get people talking. If you don’t laugh there’s something wrong. check out. http://thebeardedidealist.com/
