Did they get the cover right this time?

A couple weeks ago I asked you to vote on a new cover for PDYM… and over 650 people voted. The highest percentage said, “Go back to the drawing board.”

Thankfully, the publishers did… they actually payed attention to your input (and many strong comments) and even took an mock-up from a reader/friend and came up with the one you’ll see below:

Truth is, you’re never gonna make us happy. :)
We’re never as picky and critical as when we are asked our opinions.
I think everyone’s favorite part of the cover is the name at the bottom. So, go with what you like and don’t worry, we’ll follow close behind!

love it! thanks for your gracious response!

  • David Hertweck

    Doug,
Very gracious of you to still be asking our opinions…my personal preference would be to go even simpler, cleaner…minimalistic in design and color…not sure if there’s a need for 4 different colors, the yellow arrow, etc…

      Thanks for your input DH.

Interesting how the best selling youth ministry book of all time is using the title of a book that isn’t the best selling youth ministry book of all time to market itself…maybe I’m the only person that finds that funny

    • dougfields

Brian: i’ve read your comment 3 times and I don’t get it… what are you saying?

      • Brian Seidel

under your name it says “author of your first two years in youth ministry” I understand that is a newer book but I think PDYM speaks for itself, it doesn’t need to ride on the back of that book, that’s all I meant. I do like this new cover though

        • dougfields

          okay… I get it now.

  • Jonathan McKee

I think it’s great, Doug. It’s simple, it looks like a business/management book… which isn’t a stretch at all. Very professional. Go with it.

    • dougfields

      thanks bud.

Don’t you want something like, “Updated” or “Revised” or something that lets people know it isn’t exact same book with new cover? Seems like that would make folks who bought it the first time around more likely to buy the new version.

    • dougfields

I would if it was “updated” or “revised”… same book, just a new look (for now). Thanks KJ.

Got it. And I like this new cover much better than previous four.

I like it. Just remember, when you ask for Opinions, your gonna get Opinions–everyone’s got one! Maybe if you put my name on it instead, though, you’d sell more copies? Just a thought…

I think what Joe Thompson said sums up best what I was trying to say. I shoulda read that first! :)

    • dougfields

that gives me something to consider… how do you spell “Leslie”?

I still think your missing a chance at new readers or a refreshed audience by not going more simple and classic looking. This book has been changing ministry for years and will yet for years to come! It’s the practical “field manual” of leaders around the world that’s been helping them get their ministries in the direction they’ve been aiming.

      Good feedback… thanks!
